Exclusive: Final obstacle remains for Shields

Hurricanes wide receiver signee Sam Shields has gotten some good news.

After watching the rest of his incoming classmates enroll in summer school without him, Shields has finally found out that he's through the NCAA Clearinghouse.

"I've been cleared by the Clearinghouse," Shields said. "It went through. They called and told me."

Now comes the next stage of the process for Shields: Getting past UM admissions.

Shields had his first meeting with Miami's compliance office today.

He says he was asked about his ACT score, which jumped from a 15 to a qualifying 20.
