Indiana RB Evans commits to VT
Running back Darren Evans out of Indianapolis Warren Central gave a verbal commitment to the Hokies yesterday after a trip there last weekend. The 6-foot-0, 207-pounder picked Virginia Tech over offers from Colorado, Indiana, Louisville, Purdue, Washington and others.
"I called up coach Wiles, Foster, Hite and Beamer yesterday and talked to all of them," he said. "It was really exciting to give them my commitment because they went on to say that they were only recruiting two running backs and didn't take any last year. That should give me a big advantage to step in next season."
Evans picked the Hokies due to a few important factors.
"It's a lot of things including the campus, coaches, winning history and more," he said. "Talking to the coaches and being on campus last weekend, it seemed like that was where I wanted to be. They are also a big-time football team and that is what I wanted. I also really liked the stadium a lot, it is amazing and the best one I've been to in the country. The only thing I didn't like was the smell of cow manure, but I can get used to that because I grew up in the country."
