The Latest Recruiting News and Notes:
1) Jack be big, Jack be quick.
SpartanMag.com paid a lot of attention to the offensive linemen at the Spartan summer camp sessions. After watching the June and July sessions it is still obvious to us that Jack Cornell Jr. is the player the Spartans are looking at to finalize the offensive line class of 2007.
As we indicated in a previous update, Cornell would solidify an outstanding offensive line class and certainly give Elite 11 quarterback Keith Nichol some peace of mind. An offensive line class of Cornell, Paul Simkovich and Darrell Davis-Budanauro would be as good as that of any team in the Big Ten.
By the way, Simkovich was recently named NIKE 1st Team All-American based on his performance at the Penn State NIKE Camp. If Cornell does become the final piece of the puzzle, I think you would have to go back to 1999 to see an offensive line class with as much talent as this one would have.
Cornell is rated a three-star prospect and the #12 player in Illinois. In our opinion, that ranking might be a little low. We think he is a better offensive line prospect than Markus Zusevics who is rated the #10 player. Those rankings should probably be flipped.
