Irish gain ground with Donald

Huntingdon, Tenn., linebacker Chris Donald wasn't sure what to expect when he arrived in South Bend on Thursday, but he knew that if he wasn't blown away by what Notre Dame had to offer, he would be ready to commit to Tennessee, his childhood favorite.


"My interest in Tennessee was really high," Donald said. "To tell you the truth, if I didn't like the trip (to Notre Dame) I was going to go ahead and commit. But now they are dead even."


Donald, a 6-foot-2, 220-pounder, was pleased with his time on Notre Dame's campus and came away with much more knowledge about everything the Irish have to offer.


"It went great and I learned a while lot," he said. "Notre Dame made it hard for me to decide. I'm liking what ND has to offer as far as academics and athletics."


Joined by his parents and cousin, Donald arrived on campus Thursday evening and spent some time getting to know defensive coordinator Rick Minter and head coach Charlie Weis, as well as many other members of the coaching staff. He also met several players.
