Four-star OL talks about trip to the Northwest
Having never been to the Pacific Northwest before, much less Oregon, Matt Summers-Gavin felt that he owed it to himself to check out both Oregon and Oregon State. So the 6-foot-5, 271-pound center from St. Ignatius Prep in San Francisco made the trip up for preview days at both schools, and it was an opportunity for the coaching staffs at both programs to make their impression on the four-star athlete.
On Friday, Summers-Gavin hit Corvallis and OSU's preview day. "I really enjoyed my visit to Oregon State," Summers-Gavin said. "I liked the small town kind of life and how everything was all close together. There are pretty nice facilities and the coaches all have pretty good track records. They all really seemed like they want me, and I liked that."
All of Summers-Gavin's time at preview day was spent on the OSU campus, seeing the sights and getting to meet all sorts of people. He got things started by personally talking with head coach Mike Riley. "He just came over to me with some of the other coaches, and sat down with me to talk," Summers-Garvin said. "He's really personal and seems like a hands-on kind of guy, not one that's unapproachable. Everyone really treated us with a lot of respect and it was nice to feel like you were wanted."
