Khalil Latif selects the Hokies

Midlothian, Va., Manchester offensive guard Khalil Latif gave a verbal commitment to Virginia Tech earlier today. The 6-foot-3, 290-pounder called the coaching staff to tell them the good news after selecting the Hokies from over 20 other offers.

"He's not a flamboyant kind of guy and instead just called coach Cavanaugh and Beamer to give them the news," Manchester head coach Tom Hall said. "Once he told them, we could hear hooting and hollering on the other line and then the coaches told him that were very excited to have him be apart of the program. They went on to say that they want him to really focus hard on his athletics and academics this season. Then Beamer said that Virginia Tech is already getting the greatest recruiting class in their history and Khalil's commitment makes them that much stronger."

Latif actually knew he was committing to Virginia Tech when he arrived back home Friday night after visiting Blacksburg during the day.

"He didn't say much to me on the way back, but that evening he called and told me Virginia Tech is where he wants to go because he felt at ease there," he said.
