Douglas is first pledge for 2008
For Maryville High School junior Aaron Douglas, Tennessee football has been a way of life. Douglas is the son of former Vol letterman David Douglas and former Lady Vol standout Karla Horton Douglas. And so when Tennessee head coach Phillip Fulmer asked him to be a Vol on Monday morning, Douglas decided there was no reason to wait making him the first Vol for the class of 2008.
"My dad and coach Fulmer have been friends for a long time and they were talking last week when coach Fulmer told him that he wanted to meet with me," Aaron Douglas said. "So they set it up for today (Monday). I did not plan on committing when I went over there, but after talking to coach Fulmer for about 30 minutes I knew I was ready to commit."
The reality is that deep down, Douglas committed to the Vols along time ago.
"It's exciting," Douglas said. "It is everything I have always wanted. It is all I have ever known. You hear guys talk about favorite memories and favorite players. For me the greatest memory I have of college football is being in the stands as a nine year old in 1998 for the win over Florida in overtime."
