Top five position battles heading into fall camp
Nebraska will open fall camp on Thursday and heading into practice there are several position battles that will be worth watching in the upcoming weeks. HuskersIllustrated.com has come up with our top five position battles heading into fall camp.
Here is a complete breakdown of what you can expect
maybe the most exciting battle will take place at running back.
All five of Nebraska's running backs
Running backs coach Randy Jordan may have the hardest job in fall camp this August. Jordan is going to have to figure out how to get five different running backs reps in practice.
Right now sophomores Marlon Lucky and Cody Glenn will come in with an early edge, but junior college transfer Kenny Wilson is expected to make a strong run at playing time this August.
Also don't count out junior Brandon Jackson. The word is Jackson will come to camp ready to play and the fact that his name hasn't been mentioned by many people this past year has given him extra motivation over the off-season.
Sophomore Leon Jackson will also try to make a run for time this fall, but heading out of spring ball he was clearly behind Lucky and Glenn. Wilson could be the x-factor, the word out of conditioning is strength coach Dave Kennedy has told people he has never seen an incoming player as physically ready as Wilson.
Harrison Beck vs. Joe Ganz
This is a battle a year ago most didn't expect to take place, but fact is sophomore Harrison Beck is behind Joe Ganz on the depth chart if you were to go off their individual performances in spring football.
The month of August will be very important for Beck. He need's to use August to quiet some of the critics who have questioned him this off-season. There's no doubt Beck has the tools to play in this offense, it will come down to if he can handle the mental aspect of it.
