Fall Camp: Day One Notebook
The first day of practice kicked off and there were some notable performances. While some players stood out of course it will be easier to get a gauge on who is capable of what once the pads go on.
Both Chris Henry and Xavier Smith had pretty good days. Smith had a nice very nice carry in the running back drills and although it was a short yardage situation, he did a good job of finding the hole and exploding through it.
As far as Henry goes, he had a similar performance to Smith's. He had some nice plays where he was able to find the hole. In this particular drill, neither of the running backs could go for major yardage, but if the field was extended, both guys seemingly would have had longer carries.
Obviously it is important to have a running back that can see the holes and explode through them, thus the first day was encouraging as far as running backs go.
Similar to what he showed this summer in voluntary workouts, Adrian McCovy has a good nose for the ball. He came close to intercepting a pass and looks as if he may be the type of player that not only makes the routine plays, but the ones that change games as well.
