Summers-Gavin sets date with ND
Last week, San Francisco offensive lineman Matt Summers-Gavin received a text message from Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis. Phone troubles kept the 6-foot-5, 271-pounder from returning the call but he did eventually talk with Irish assistant coach Brian Polian who shared the news that Notre Dame was extending a scholarship offer.
Summers-Gavin was confident that he'd eventually receive an offer from the Irish, but he was still excited to finally hear the news.
"I was pretty positive (the offer) would come," Summers-Gavin said. "When it did I was really excited. It was our team's last workout day and we went out afterwards. When I got home I saw the text message from coach Weis. I had heard other stories that if you get a text message from coach Weis, it's usually pretty good news. I was excited; to have an opportunity to get a full ride from a school of that magnitude is a great honor."
