DeMartinis enjoys 'physical' scrimmage
The offensive line continues to be a position that the Arizona State staff is hitting very hard during this recruiting cycle. The glaring need for offensive lineman depth could be decreased after a Saturday visitor who took in Camp Tontozona.
Sherman Oaks (Calif.) offensive tackle Sam DeMartinis made visits to the University of Arizona, and Arizona State on consecutive days this weekend.
"I went with my Mom and Dad," DeMartinis said. "Friday we went to the University of Arizona, and got a tour of the campus. I also got to meet with their coaches. I liked the campus and the coaches were really cool.
"Then on Saturday we went to the scrimmage at Camp T and I got to watch Arizona State. The scrimmage went great, it was very physical. I also got to meet with the coaches after the scrimmage was over and then we had lunch."
The discussions with the Sun Devil coaches certainly left DeMartinis with a very positive feeling about the ASU program.
"My parents and I talked with Coach Fidler," DeMartinis said. "He is the recruiting coach for my area. We also talked to Coach Myers. We talked about how much they (ASU) need linemen. I counted and they only had 13 suited up. They told me that they were going to take 5 or 6 in this class."
Did these trips create a clear-cut favorite?
"I'd say that Arizona State and Cal are my co-favorites," DeMartinis said.
We spoke with DeMartinis just over a month ago and he said that he would like to wait until after his season is over to make a final decision on his college destination, did these visits change those thoughts?
"No, I'm still not in any hurry," DeMartinis said. "I'm thinking that I'll wait until late January after I take all of my visits. I'm hoping that I'll have enough for three or maybe four officials. I haven't planned any visits yet, and to be honest I haven't even thought about it that much. I still don't even know which schools I want to visit."
