Meier named starting QB
Kansas State head coach Ron Prince released the first depth chart of the 2006 season Sunday evening, which revealed senior Dylan Meier as the Wildcats' starting quarterback.
The depth chart also featured plenty of surprises, particularly on the offensive line, and also showed a number of newcomers to the program already on the two deep.
A link to the new depth chart is provided to the right, and here's a quick look at some interesting developments on both sides of the ball.
***Meier named the starter at quarterback: Meier earned the No. 1 spot and the right to start the season opener by beating out true freshman Josh Freeman, although it still seems likely that Freeman will see extensive reps in the season opener to prepare him for at least a backup role, if not more, this year.
***Stringer, Frieson to start at offensive tackle spots: Redshirt freshman Derek Meyer seemed a sure bet to start at left tackle since the spring but now sits as a No. 2 behind Nick Stringer, while senior Michael Frieson takes over the right tackle spot Stringer previously worked at.
