Four-star lives up to rep

Four-star wide receiver Markques Simas (6-2, 205, 4.5) from San Diego (Calif.) Mira Mesa lived up to his lofty status as one of the Golden State's best player leading Mira Mesa to victory in their opener against the always tough Vista, Calif., team in convincing fashion 38-14.

Simas was expected to be a force on the offensive side of the ball and he was catching five passes for over 100 yards and two touchdowns. He even had one 35 yard touchdown called back.

Simas has added cornerback to his list of skills and ended up playing the as well as he does wide receiver. He picked off one pass and could have had another but he landed awkwardly on his back the ball bounced free.

"Markques had an unbelievable game on both sides of the ball," Mira Mesa offensive coordinator Chris Thompson said. "He came ready to play."
