Rogers special on kick returns despite loss

One of the big surprises of the 2006 Michigan recruiting class came in June when wide reciever prospect James Rogers earned a scholarship at the Michigan summer camp and promptly committed. On Friday night he saw action as Madison Heights Lamphere took on rival Madison Heights Madison. Despite a strong effort from Rogers on special teams, the Rams were crushed 54-6 in the contest.

"We've got to get strong." noted Rogers after the game. "Way stronger."

While most of the Madison kickoffs fell well short of Rogers, it turned out to be the one area where he was to showcase his great speed and athletic ability. On an unexpectedly strong kicking effort, Rogers was taken by surprise as the ball traveled well over his head, and came to a rest on the Lamphere one-yard line. Forced to pick up the live ball, Rogers provided the Rams with their only score of the evening, returning the kick 99 yards for a touchdown.
