Panthers look at New Jersey running back

Last fall Hoboken running back Damien Bates exploded onto the scene by leading his team to a New Jersey Section 2 Group 1 championship.

This fall Bates has helped his team get off to a 2-0 start Friday night with a win over previously unbeaten Hudson Catholic (2-1) by a score of 34-14. The win extended the Red Wing's wining streak to 14 games.

Hoboken opened the season with a 57-7 win over Memorial. Bates had 175 yards only 8 carries in the blowout victory.

On Friday night against Hudson Catholic Bates rushed for another 273 yards on 36 carries. He scored three touchdowns and also added a two-point conversion.

Bates told the Pantherlair that he currently has offers from Purdue and Delaware. He said, "Other than those two Iowa and Pitt are probably recruiting me the hardest."

Bates went on to say, "Some school are recruiting me as a defensive back while others see me as a running back. Pitt is talking to me about being a running back. I am being recruited by Coach Walker. I am about 5 feet 10 inches tall and weigh 201 pounds right now. "

Bates does not have any visits scheduled at this point but hopes to visit Purdue this fall.

Hoboken also features wide receiver Duvall Kamara who has already committed to Notre Dame. Kamara is a Rivals.com Top 100 selection.
