Defense making statements

Turning points are common in college football, and most coaches hope that they can get one or two in a game.

Statements, though, are much more rare and one could carry a team through a season.

Two statements are almost unheard of, but for the Texas A&M defense - a defense in need of a statement or two after a dismal 2005 season - statements are coming in bunches.

It started with the Aggies facing a loss to unheralded Army in San Antonio in the waning seconds in the Alamodome. With the Black Knights facing first-and-goal from the two-yard line, the Aggies stuffed them twice before Jason Jack and Misi Tupe broke through on third down to crush Army running back Tony Moore for a four-yard loss, winning the game for A&M.

Statement No. 1.

And it carried over to the game with Louisiana Tech where the defense stopped Louisiana Tech on four consecutive drives in the first quarter, three of which started at midfield, before Tech finally got into the end zone.
