Dawgs to get defensive Saturday
There is no getting around it. Success begets success. Both the UW and USC exemplify this adage perfectly. The game in sunny southern California this week will be watched with great interest around the country. Everyone is writing about it. ESPN just rolled into town to do a story on the UW's reversal of fortunes and, according to USC coach Pete Carroll, the game has extra meaning for his Trojans as well.
In short, the stakes have never been higher for this pack of Dawgs, nor the expectations.
"The start of the season has felt like a road trip," said coach Carroll in his opening remarks to the California media earlier this week. "We are cranked up about coming back home."
"It's great to have the opportunity to finally get back. We have a couple of weeks to look forward to, being here at the Coliseum and playing in our setting. It's a big deal to us."
By all accounts, USC is one of the top three teams in the country, and the Washington coaching staff has given no indication that they expect to pull a win out of a hat on Saturday afternoon, only that they have to do a whole lot of things "right" to make an upset conceivable.
