Bates is frequent visitor to Iowa St.

Included in the two biggest home crowds in Iowa State football history the past two weekends has been Omaha (Neb.) North quarterback Phillip Bates. He's been verbally committed to the Cyclones since the spring and is enjoying the opportunity to see his future team in person.

Even though the ISU performances the last two weeks have left something to be desired, the 6-foot-2, 190-pound Bates is taking it all in stride and doesn't worry about it.

Several of ISU's verbal commitments for 2007 attended Saturday night's game. Along with Bates, also in attendance were Grinnell defensive end Will Eilert and West Des Moines Valley athlete Alex Sandvig.
