Junior RB off to impressive start
After a down year for running backs in South Jersey, the Class of 2008 seems to be coming on strong. One of the players to keep an eye on is William Washington of Holy Spirit (NJ) Absecon. Washington is off to a fantastic start in 2006, and currently leads the Cape Atlantic League in rushing touchdowns. ScarletNation.com spoke with Washington about his style of play, his accomplishments, and his recruitment.
Washington, 5-foot-9 and 190-pounds, has already rushed for 8 touchdowns this season, and has added a 9th on an 80-yard kickoff return. Besides his own personal play, Washington is also happy with what he has seen out of his teammates on the field.
"We've been told that we're bigger and stronger than other Holy Spirit teams in the past," said Washington.
The running back also described his style of play for people who haven't had the opportunity to check him out in person.
"My style of running is tough, with some quick agility," said Washington, who also has a squat max of 500-pounds.
Later this fall, Washington is hoping to attend a game at both Rutgers and Penn State, but for now he gave his thoughts on the Scarlet Knights.
"Rutgers has a very good program overall and I think that their coaches are great," said Washington. "Joseph G. Susan Jr., the Knights recruiting coach, and also the Head Coach, Greg Schiano, have been keeping me up on the Knights present and past history, which is interesting. I really appreciate it."
You can be sure to hear more about Washington in the coming year as his recruitment heats up.
