Video: Rogers grinds it out
On Friday night, Madison Heights Lamphere took on St Clair Shores Lake Shore, with both teams battling to secure an automatic playoff bid. Michigan commitment James Rogers rushed the ball for 224 yards and a touchdown on 39 carries, also catching one pass, playing free safety on defense, and handling the kicking and punting duties for the Rams. However, despite his workman like efforts, the Lamphere fell short, losing to the Shorians 14-13 in a game that was filled with turnovers. Following the game, Rogers focused on his own mistakes while praising his team for their effort.
"It's cold and slick out there, so the ball is a little slippery, and I had two fumbles which was not necessary," recounted Rogers of the game. "It could have saved us in the game and everything, but basically, we stuck our heads out and played hard on defense and we played as hard as we could."
Lamphere will have one last shot to make the playoffs, but reaching that goal won't be easy. The Rams will be on the road Friday, taking on 8-0 Marine City led by star junior signal caller Brendon Kay. Rogers feels that the key to coming away successful in that match up will be putting in the work that is necessary in practice, and playing as a team to the best of their abilities.
"I think we need to come in despite this and work really hard," he said. "We've got to come out and fight as hard as we can, and I mean give it our all. Marine City is a tough team. I think they're undefeated so we've got to come out and give it all we've got."
