Reier's Top 10 Tiders

The following is a list of Top 10 Tiders for Week 8 of the 2006 football season. Every Wednesday, BOL senior writer Travis Reier lists his top 10 Tide performers. In effect, the list serves as a week-to-week ranking of Alabama's most valuable players.

1. DJ Hall Last Week: 1
Despite playing with a nagging shoulder injury, Hall is on a historic four-week run. In racking up 119 receiving yards against Ole Miss, Hall set new school marks for career 100-yard receiving games (seven), consecutive 100-yard games (four) and is now tied with Ozzie Newsome for 100-yard games in a season (four).

2. Antoine Caldwell Last Week: 3
Caldwell has played 456 of a possible 477 snaps (95.5 percent) on offense this season and has graded out at 90 percent or better in all seven games. Continues to slide over to left guard when the Tide goes with its two-minute offense.

3. Keith Brown Last Week: 2
Brown went down with a mild left knee strain in the Tide's win over Ole Miss. One reception for 10 yards against the Rebels marked Brown's least-productive outing of the season. Brown leads the Tide in receptions with 37.

4. Kenneth Darby Last Week: 7
Now has consecutive 100-yard rushing games to his credit after piling up 162 yards against Ole Miss. Darby is the only Division I-A player with 100 or more rushing attempts without a touchdown this season. Ran for 141 yards in the second half against the Rebels. Needs 491 yards to break the UA career rushing record currently held by Shaun Alexander.

5. John Parker Wilson Last Week: 5
Seven straight games with 200-plus yards passing after throwing for 206 yards against Ole Miss. Through his first seven games as the starter, Wilson has completed 118 of 197 passes for 1,579 yards, with 11 touchdowns and five interceptions. Currently ranks third in the SEC in total offense (233.4) and fifth in pass efficiency (140.58).

6. Wallace Gilberry Last Week: 4
Three tackles and a quarterback hurry against Ole Miss. Gilberry leads all UA defensive linemen with 312 snaps this season. Gilberry has 22 tackles and has also added six pressures, 4.5 TFLs and one pass breakup.

7. Andre Smith Last Week: 6
Outside of being flagged for the first holding penalty of his UA career, Smith dominated in pass protection. The true freshman has played a team-leading 492 snaps this season, including special teams.

8. Prince Hall Last Week: NR
Honored as the SEC freshman of the week after posting eight tackles, including two for loss, against Ole Miss. Hall leads UA with 5.5 tackles for loss, two sacks and two fumbles recovered. Ranks third on the team with 36 tackles and has made 22 stops in the last three games.

9. Jeffrey Dukes Last Week: 8
Posted seven total tackles while playing in the box for much of the Tide's win over Ole Miss. Dukes leads the UA defense in snaps (420), total tackles (43) and solo tackles (24).

10. Simeon Castille Last Week: 9
Like Dukes, Castille was very involved against the Ole Miss ground game last Saturday. Led the team in tackles with 10. Forced a fumble and also recorded a quarterback hurry. Castille leads UA with six pass breakups, three interceptions and two fumbles recovered. Personal foul penalty set the Rebels up with a first-and-goal.

SIX ON THE FRINGE: FB Le'Ron McClain; FB Tim Castille; DE Keith Saunders; DT Dominic Lee; WR Will Oakley; CB Lionel Mitchell.
