Scalici: Five on the Spot

It's Week 8 of college football season and the Tide are ready to get back on track this week against the Florida International Golden Panthers. These are the five Crimson Tide players that must step their games up this week for Game 9.

RB Jimmy Johns - Despite being slowed by injury, Johns looked extremely productive against the Volunteer defense last weekend and offensive coordinator Dave Rader has promised that Johns will see an increased number of snaps this weekend. Another strong performance could insure Johns even more carries in the final four games of the season.

QB Jimmy Barnes - With the departure of Marc Guillon, Barnes has taken on the role of backup quarterback and will likely see meaningful action this weekend as the coaches try and give him some quality preparation for a potential emergency in the future. A good showing from Barnes would take a lot of the tension out of John Parker Wilson's next scramble.

WR Nikita Stover - After an impressive catch in the Tennessee game, the Tide coaches have declared that Stover has earned more playing time and with Keith Brown likely out this week with an injury, expect Stover to get more than a couple of passes thrown his way.

LB Prince Hall - The freshman from California has shown playmaking ability in the last several games for the Tide but he has yet to show the level of consistency that the Tide coaches want. Hall must take the opportunity of playing a smaller, slower opponent to stay focused and play a more consistent game.

DT Lorenzo Washington - The young tackle saw time on the field last week and if the Tide defense hopes to be strong up the middle next season, they'll need Washington and his fellow young tackles to develop as quickly as possible. Washington's experience in the latter part of the FIU game will be crucial to the future of the Tide defense.
