Bates will wait for a new Cyclone staff

Just like the quarterback is the leader on the football field, Omaha (Neb.) North quarterback Phillip Bates is the one who everyone looked to immediately to see what he would do following the resignation of Iowa State coach Dan McCarney. The first commitment for the Cyclones in the class of 2007, Bates is now looking at the situation to determine his next move.

"I am still committed to Iowa State, but I have looked around a little bit at other schools," said Bates after the McCarney resignation. "I'm still a Cyclone right now, but I want to see who the new coaching staff is."

Not expecting the move from McCarney, Bates said today has been trying at times, but he chose to focus on the appreciation he has for Iowa State, their coaching staff and particularly Coach McCarney.
