Erie standout set for playoffs
Maurice Williams (6' 0" 184) has helped Erie Strong Vincent gain a berth in the District 10 AAA plays.
Williams told the Pantherlair, "I was supposed to make an official visit to West Virginia this weekend but we have a playoff game on Saturday. I tentatively have a visit scheduled to Pitt Thanksgiving weekend when Pitt plays Louisville. We will have to see how deep we go into the playoffs."
This past weekend Erie Strong Vincent beat winless Meadville on a snow covered field by a score of 34-10. "Moe" Williams said, "I think I ran the ball for about 145 yards. I completed 6 of 11 passes for about 75 yards. I threw for one touchdown." The Colonels played this past week without their top running back Donte Harden who was kept out of the game because of the field conditions and the fact that he has been nursing a sprained ankle.
Saturday night Erie Strong Vincent (7-3) hosts Warren (5-5) at 7:00 pm at Veterans Stadium. Williams said, "We beat them by about 30 points when we played them in the regular season so we should advance. Donte will play this week." In late September the Colonels beat Warren 53-14.
"Moe" Williams plays quarterback and defensive back for the Colonels but many schools project him as a wide receiver.
Williams is being recruited to Pitt by assistant coach Paul Rhoads. Rhoads visited William's high school a couple of weeks ago.
Rivals.com ranks "Moe" Williams as the No. 12 prospect in the state of Pennsylvania and the No. 36 wide receiver prospect in the country.
