Practice Report: Coaches focus on poise

The Crimson Tide continued its preparation for the Iron Bowl with a shorts and shoulderpads practice on Wednesday. Head coach Mike Shula said he was pleased with his team's effort thus far this week.

"We had a good day of practice yesterday," Shula said. "We've got to get ready for a fast football team on defense. Our guys have got to have a good rest of the week as far as focus. We haven't really played four quarters. Our goal is to put four quarters together on all phases."

"Practice went well today. We moved things up and still got our work done. Our guys are really moving around well and tomorrow we'll continue our preparation. The best thing we can do as coaches is make sure our guys know what to do. When they go out there it's going to be emotional, especially to start the game. You have to be poised, you have to play with confidence in this game and believe that you're going to play each play like it's the one that's going to change the game."

Shula and his staff have moved practice at least one hour earlier each day this week so far in an effort to get the players a bit more rest in the evenings too keep them fresh this week.

"I think it will help for gameday. I also like that we've been meeting earlier in the mornings and so the guys are thinking about it a little bit more all day as opposed to just when they come in for practice. "
