How does Chizik's hire rate with Bates?

From the time he committed to Iowa State last April until now, Omaha (Neb.) North quarterback Phillip Bates looked to be the future at the helm of the Cyclone offense. When head coach Dan McCarney resigned on Nov. 8, he maintained his commitment to the Cyclones, but also said he would look at other options. Now, he assesses his situation with the hiring of Gene Chizik at Iowa State.

The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Bates is ranked as the No. 16 dual-threat quarterback, the No. 3 player in the state of Nebraska and a three-star prospect by Rivals.com. He took an official visit to Ohio the weekend of Nov. 17, but is not sure if he will need any more trips outside of one to Ames.
