Buffs land another highly regarded receiver

Signing day for the recruiting Class of 2007 is still two months away, but the Buffaloes have already landed 27 commitments.

Their latest pledge is a speedy wide receiver prospect from Mamou (La.) High. Colorado has now landed commitments from 11 different states.

The prospect in question is Kendrick Celestine.

"[CU wide receivers] Coach Eric Kiesau came to my school on Tuesday afternoon and he showed me some of their formations, wrote down some of their plays on the board and showed me that I would have an opportunity to play early," said Celestine. "He didn't come out and say I was going to start but he was telling me that I could make a big impact in their offense. I really think I can achieve all of my goals at the University of Colorado.

"I was getting kind of stressed out with the whole recruiting process but when Coach Kiesau came by on Tuesday it all became clear. He was the only coach that came out and really showed me how I would have an opportunity to play as a freshman. That was one of my main factors."

Celestine's commitment comes as a surprise given the fact that he has yet to visit Colorado.

"I really didn't know anything about Colorado until they started recruiting me," he said. "But my interest grew as I kept talking to the coaches. As the recruiting process went on my interest in Colorado kept getting higher and higher. My mother has been looking up the University and she said it is a very good school academically. Other than that, I don't know too much about Boulder."

"I was scheduled to visit there on December 8th but I found out yesterday that I have to take the ACT on the 9th and I obviously can't miss that," he continued. "So I am going to have to set the visit date up again. It's frustrating because I have already had to reschedule it four times."

After playing quarterback as an underclassman, Celestine moved to receiver this fall. He caught 45 passes for 924 yards and 11 scores despite missing action early in the season due to a foot injury.

Celestine clocked in with the fourth fastest 40-yard dash time (4.40-laser timed) at the Baton Rouge NIKE Camp last April. He also tested out with a 32-inch vertical and did 22 reps on the bench press.

Celestine is ranked by as the No. 78 ranked receiver nationally from the Class of 2007.
