Decision could come soon for Brown
ORLANDO, Fla. - Rivals100 defensive lineman John Brown has been a force at the East Meets West Bowl. He has made life hard for the running backs this week in practice.
"This week has been just like practicing at Lakeland for me," Brown said. "All I have been doing is going up against the twins (Pouncey's) and they are very good."
He is happy with his performance in practice.
"I got blocked pretty good one time on Wednesday, but I couldn't let that happen again," Brown said. "Since then, I had to take over. I think I have done pretty good against some very good players out here."
Brown is one of the top defensive lineman in the country and four schools are still in the mix for his signature.
"Alabama, LSU, and Florida are the main schools I am looking at," he said. "I guess you can put Florida State in there too. I am still thinking about them too."
Alabama is one of Brown's finalists and he likes the hiring of Nick Saban.
"I think he was the best man for the job. I know a lot about Coach Saban from the Dolphins and I also watched him a little when he was at LSU. I think he is a great coach," Brown said.
One official visit has been taken and another is set for January.
"I have already been to LSU and that went great," Brown said. "I have one set for Alabama, but I am not sure of the date now with the coaching change. I will still visit them for sure though."
Brown said, "I am not sure if I will take anymore official visits after that. I have been to Florida and Florida State before, so I have seen everything."
Lakeland has a number of players set to sign with the Gators, but will that influence Brown in any way?
"Those guys (Chris Rainey, Paul Wilson, Ahmad Black, Steve Wilks, James Pouncey, and LaShawn Pouncey are on me pretty hard. They talk about Florida all the time, but I am going to make my own decision."
Could a decision be on the horizon?
"I hope to be ready soon." Brown said. "I am not sure of a date or anything, but it could happen after my visit to Alabama."
