Clear leader for S.C. junior

Union (S.C.) defensive tackle Sam Hammond figures to be one of the top defensive line prospects in the Palmetto State for the Class of 2008 and currently has an in-state favorite out in front in a big way.

"Yes sir, (Clemson is my clear favorite)," he said. "I like the atmosphere, I like the coaches and I like it because I know a player down there (Rivals.com 2005 freshman All-American) Rashad Jackson."

Hammond is being recruited by Clemson linebackers coach David Blackwell, one of the top recruiters in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Blackwell has been largely responsible for the Tigers' recruiting success in the Upstate region of South Carolina, where Union is located.

"He's a nice guy," Hammond said.
