Hawkeyes hosting surprise visitor

The Iowa Hawkeyes will host a surprise official visitor this weekend in Pennsylvania athlete Drew Astorino. The 5-foot-11, 175-pound Astorino, who attends General McLane High School in Edinboro, PA, is currently committed to Kent State.

Astorino, who ran a 4.44 forty at the Kent State camp last summer, received a visit from Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz and offensive coordinator Ken O'Keefe this week. The two-star prospect initially turned down an invite to visit Iowa City, but then reconsidered after the Hawkeyes offered a scholarship.

As a senior, Astorino earned state player of the year honors in Class AAA after leading General McLane to a state championship. The two-star prospect had 1,224 yards and 20 touchdowns on offense, while collecting 68 tackles and seven interceptions as a defensive back. Astorino, who could play cornerback or safety in college, will leave for Iowa City on Saturday morning.
