Longhorns set to do battle at Texas A&M
The Texas Longhorns have played in a hostile environment at Tennessee and Oklahoma State this season, but Monday night at 8 p.m. the Longhorns will face a different type of animal in College Station against rival Texas A&M. The Aggie fans will pack Reed Arena and be in a festive mood after beating the Kansas Jayhawks, 69-66, in Lawrence Saturday night.
The task at hand for the Longhorns will be a very tough one as the Aggies (19-3, 7-1) are 15-0 at home on the season and are one of the top defensive teams in college basketball, allowing only 35.3 percent shooting. Texas A&M has allowed 70 points only once on the season.
The leader for Texas A&M is senior point guard Acie Law, who hit a long three-pointer to beat Texas in College Station last year. Law is averaging 16.7 points and five assists per game on the season and has a knack for making key shots in the closing minutes of big games.
Joining Law in double figure scoring is junior big man Joseph Jones (13.5 points), Antana Kavaliauskas (12.0 points) and sophomore wing Josh Carter (11.7 points).
Texas A&M is one of the more efficient offensive teams in college basketball, shooting 50.3 percent from the field, 40.8 percent from three and 74.9 percent from the free throw line.
Texas (16-6, 6-2) enters Big Monday coming off of a home loss to Kansas State, 73-72.
