Rod helps to clarify academics, etc. for '07 class
MORGANTOWN--There are at least two phases that have to do with bringing signees into West Virginia after the Feb. 8-April 2 signature period is over. One is making sure that the thus far 25 contracted players graduate from high school and take care of the necessary GPA-standardized test formula that will make them eligible in June when summer school begins and/or be with the team when fall ball opens. The second is getting selected players through the NCAA Clearinghouse, which often weighs in on late-qualifiers.
WVU head coach Rich Rodriguez, who completed this signing group after three assistants left the school after the Gator Bowl, discussed academics and player positions of several members of the group at a press conference on Wednesday. Recruiting coordinator Tony Gibson said that new staff members from USF, quarterbacks coach Rod Smith and offensive line coach Greg Frey, were involved in hosting the committees on their WVU visits. Gibson said geographical recruiting locations for the entire staff will be developed this week.
