A tale of two Easterlings

Signing day was anything but ordinary this year for Southern Miss. The Golden Eagles were part of one of the biggest signing day surprises of the year and they were also part of the one of the most bizarre, well non-signings of the day. Both situations involved the name Easterling.

In what many recruiting analysts consider the biggest signing day coup of the year, the Golden Eagles landed rivals.com four-star running back Antwain Easterling from Northwestern (Miami, Fla.). On the same day, long-time Southern Miss commitment Taiwan Easterling from Oak Grove (Hattiesburg, Miss.) announced that instead of signing with the Eagles that he would be headed to Florida State.

Signing day surprises are nothing nothing new for the Golden Eagles or any of the other 119 I-A programs around the nation. Early on Wednesday morning Antwain Easterling announced to the Miami Herald that he would be signing with the Eagles. Like clockwork at 10:15 AM his LOI rolled off the fax machine in the Golden Eagle football offices.
