Jonesí buzzer beater bails out 12th ranked Rice

Bobby Deren has been all of the state for ScarletNation.com over the past two weeks, ranging from Signing Day events to basketball games to this week's regional wrestling tournament (to spotlight future Scarlet Knight Alex Silvestro). One of the highlights of his work for the site thus far was the buzzer beater victory by Rice over Plainfield at the Prime Time Shootout. We thought that our local basketball fans might enjoy this look at the game.


One of the most competitive games of last weekend's Prime Time Shootout came when 12th ranked Rice took on Plainfield, NJ. On a day when Rice didn't play their best game of the season, super sophomore Lamont Jones saved the day with a buzzer beating three.

Jones always seemed to be in the right place at the right time. When loose balls weren't falling into his hands, he created havoc by poking the ball away from Cardinal players. And when he rubbed off a screen, he was open long enough to drop four three pointers. None more important than the one he nailed with two seconds left in regulation.
