Will Texas go national?
Which out of state prospects will Texas pursue? It's the million dollar question for Longhorn fans, and the answer has yet to make itself clear.
Texas has reeled in 15 commitments from within the state bounds and three other offers are on the table to top in-state prospects, and the common thinking is that the Longhorn coaches may begin to turn their attention towards top national prospects to round out the 2008 recruiting class. Part of the thought process stems from comments that Mack Brown made last month indicating that the team might scour the country for talent at certain positions, but as of yet it's been awfully quiet in tracking down candidates that have heard from the UT coaches. That time will certainly come, but it's been quiet in the first full month of the recruiting season.
One name that's been kicked around as a possible target Fairfield (CT) College Prep's Masengo Kabongo, but the big defensive tackle said he has yet to hear from the Longhorn coaches.
Kabongo reported that Florida, Notre Dame, Maryland, Boston College and Clemson are among the schools that have shown the most early interest, and he's simply evaluating all of his options at this point.
