USC chasing N.C. linebacker

Shelby (N.C.) Crest linebacker Dwayne Maddox is one of the best defensive prospects in the Tar Heel State's class of 2008, and he has four offers to his credit.

"North Carolina, South Carolina, (N.C.) State, Clemson and Alabama have offered," the 6-foot-2, 220-pound Maddox said. "I like all of those teams."

Maddox, who racked up 110 tackles and five sacks as a junior, was an attendee at South Carolina's junior day earlier this month.

"Coach (Steve) Spurrier, you know, he's one of the most renowned coaches in all of college football, and that's pretty big right there," he said. "I also really liked their strength coach (Mark Smith) and the things he was telling us."
