Young prospects emerge at Pearland Classic
The Pearland Classic is an annual spring AAU event that showcases some of the top talent in the state of Texas. The 2007 tournament wasn't any different with several of the top 2008 prospects on hand. While the 2008 prospects are in the forefront as college programs are building recruiting classes, the 2009 and 2010 prospects were on full display as well.
The class of 2009 is going to be a guard heavy class and a deep class in general. Really looking ahead, the 2010 class looks to have some big time wing and interior prospects. While names such as J'Covan Brown are well known, many are also aware of guys like Anthony Jones, Willie Warren, Steve Tchiengang and Phillip McDonald; here is a look at some of the up and coming prospects in Texas.
Nolan Dennis (Dallas Mustangs 17 and under): The race is on for the top prospect in state in the 2009 class between Richland's Dennis and Duncanville's Shawn Williams. Dennis is a 6-foot-5 combo guard that is skilled with the ball as well as possessing long arms and quick hands. Dennis played really well this weekend for the Mustangs, scoring from the 3-point line, the mid-range and on penetration. As always, Dennis made his fair share of plays defensively with ball pressure and the combination of length and quick reactions. Dennis is a very good rebounding guard and a legit combo guard.
Dennis averaged 17.4 points, 8.2 rebounds and 3.4 assists as a sophomore at Richland High. Teams such as Texas, Indiana, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas A&M are already chasing Dennis.
