SEC expert talks Sooner commitment

The debate has raged on SoonerScoop.com since the release of the initial Rivals250 to watch list about whether or not Mt. Airy (Ga.) Habersham Central linebacker Daniel Franklin was the type of elite level national recruit that one would expect of such an early Sooner offer. The 6-foot-3, 216-pound tackling-machine from SEC territory has made several visits to top programs in the region, but as of yet holds only the one offer.

This past weekend Oklahoma's second commitment had a chance to go against some of the best in the Southeast and show his stuff for national recruiting editor Mike Farrell.

"I watched him a bit; he is very strong, has a good frame and can run. His lateral speed needs work but that should come. He doesn't look like much when you first see him but he surprises you," Farrell explained.

While Farrell had a brief chance to get a look at the talented linebacker, he was a focal point of Rivals.com Southern analyst J.C. Shurburtt's weekend in Athens. Here are some of his thoughts on Franklin's work last Saturday on Georgia's campus.

JM: What did you think of Daniel physically, Mike Farrell mentioned being surprised by his performance after seeing him up close? Is that just a matter of getting the most out of a lean frame?

JCS: There is little doubt Franklin looks like he is in-shape and that he lives in the weight room.
