NIKE Penn State notes on the WVU side

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.--After observing defensive ends at the Elite College Combine, the Joe Butler Metro Index at the Steelers' Training site and here Saturday, easily the best of the bunch is 6-foot-4, 270-pound 2008 candidate Leon Mackey, who is lean and mean.

At the Elite in Waldwick, N.J., Mackey and Montvalle (N.J.) St. Joseph offensive tackle Patrick Neumann (offers from Boston College and Florida State) waged the best battle in several days of combines viewed by WVSports.com.

Both were singularly the best at their positions that WVSC has seen. Neumann, 6-4, 260, is an amateur boxer whose father is a former celebrated prize-fighter. His battle with Mackey was a war.

Each one called on the other for multiple reps at the Elite. Mackey continued his assault on several of the best offensive linemen in the East here. By the way, Penn State is allowed to host an on-campus camp since no timing or testing is involved.
