Crawford Trying to Finish Strong

Because of Texas Tech's reputation as a passing school, observers who are not familiar with the ins and outs of the Air Raid can sometimes underestimate the importance of the running game. Simply put, when Tech's running backs are hitting on all cylinders, the Air Raid is generally doing the same. Luckily for the Red Raiders, they have had great production out of the backfield over the last five years, thanks to the record setting Taurean Henderson and his replacement Shannon Woods.

However, there was quite a fuss raised this spring by head coach Mike Leach over the effort and performance of Woods, who was the presumed starter for the 2007 campaign, and as a result, Woods will start the fall behind scat-back Kobey Lewis. Woods' spring performance, coupled with injury issues with highly touted freshman Baron Batch have left Tech in a slightly precarious situation, depth-wise, at the running back position.
