NIKE Camp: Breakdown



Over the past 2 weeks SpartanMag.com traveled to NIKE Camps at Purdue, Penn State and Rutgers. During that time we were able to observe over a 1000 of the top football prospects from all over the nation. While many players were good, a few rose to the surface as the best of the best. We look at the players that caught our eye and will likely be the players the Coach Mark Dantonio makes a top priority for the class of 2008.

Purdue University NIKE Camp

Running Back Jonas Gray of Detroit Country Day High School, Michigan

Coach Dantonio wants to bring back a smash-mouth style of play to Michigan State. In order to do that he is hoping to have a workhorse running back like Gray. Gray is one of those rare running backs that have the power to run over people and the speed to run away from them. Gray will likely be one of the most highly recruited prospect sin the nation for the class of 2008. A commitment from a player like Gray would be a statement recruit for the Spartans and Coach Dantonio


Linebacker Kenny Demens of Detroit Country Day High School, Michigan

One look at Demens and it is obvious what the Spartans like about him. Throw in the fact that Jonas Gary has told us that Demens is the hardest hitter he has faced and you can see why Coach Dantonio wasted no time in offering Demens. Demens is a throwback type linebacker. He wants to hit people and punish them in the process. The fact that the Spartans only signed 1 linebacker last year and will graduate two starters this years means a player like Demens could make an early impact.
