On occasion, while covering recruiting stories, you run into a prospect that really stands head and shoulders above the crowd. Clovis (Calif.) West quarterback Beau Sweeney caught our eye immediately with his impressive film, but meeting him in person is when you really understand what he brings to the table.
Certainly, you might find a number of prep quarterbacks with more impressive statistics during their junior year than Sweeney.
As was stated in Sweeney's first few Rivals stories, Sweeney's grandfather is former Washington State and Fresno State head coach Jim Sweeney. His dad is Kevin Sweeney, a four-year starter at Fresno State where he broke the NCAA all-time passing record in the mid-80's. That connection is what led Fresno native and California head coach Jeff Tedford back to his hometown - where he spent a number of his initial years coaching the college game, even serving under Beau's grandfather. Coach Tedford's senior year at Fresno State, where he was a quarterback, was Kevin Sweeney's redshirt freshman year.
How did Beau go about selecting Cal?
