Hogs seek big LB class
Arkansas has landed its first commitment for the defensive side of the football with news that Abbeville (La.) linebacker Jelani Smith has cast his lot with the Razorbacks.
Smith, 6-foot-1, 207 pounds, 4.54 seconds in the 40-yard dash, had committed to Louisiana Tech previously, but an unofficial visit to Arkansas on Thursday changed his mind. Smith had 135 tackles, 5 forced fumbles, 2 pass breakups and 3.5 sacks as a junior.
Arkansas assistant Bobby Allen landed Smith for the Razorbacks, but it was also defensive coordinator Reggie Herring who made a very good impression on Smith and his family.
While Smith is the first commitment on the defensive side of the football, he won't be the last. Arkansas will likely sign three or four linebackers in this class and is looking at several others to go with Smith.
Arthur Brown, 6-1, 225, 4.55, Wichita East (Kan.)- This kid has offers from schools all over the nation. His younger brother is a talented sophomore running back who also has an offer from the Razorbacks. He can name his school and will take an unofficial visit to UA this summer.
