Defensive End Mackey Likes Vols
Tennessee is a school that's known for going far and wide in search of talent in the recruiting game, but even the Vols don't find themsleves doing a lot of work in Delaware. That's changing for Tennessee and several other programs in this class though, thanks to defensive end Leon Mackey from Newark, Del.
Mackey (6-foot-5, 260 pounds, 4.7 40-yard dash) was a prospect with a very low profile coming out of his junior season, but that started to change this spring when he started hitting various camps and combines.
He wowed onlookers with his skills and physical tools at the Penn State NIKE camp, taking home MVP honors among the defensive line prospects in attendance, and since then has seen a steady increase in the recruiting attention he's been getting.
Tennessee started recruiting Mackey hard in May, and since then he's received offers from NC State, West Virginia, Iowa.
From those that have shown the most interest though, Mackey has an early favorite.
Mackey also indicated that he's got significant interest in NC State at the moment, but he added he's not in a big rush to make a decision.
Rivals.com rates Mackey as a three-star prospect and the No. 32 defensive end in the Class of 2008.
