Post-Spring Evaluation: Special teams

WVSports.com concludes its position evaluations in its post-spring football review today with a look at the special teams.

While Slaton, White, Reynaud, Schmitt and Dykes are the names that gain the most pub, WVU kicker-punter Pat McAfee also will receive some All-American recognition in this, his junior season. McAfee spends almost as much time on the field as many of the regular players as the Mountaineer punt, kicking and kickoff man.

WVU head coach Rich Rodriguez would like to find replacements for Mac at one (if not more) of the three kicking jobs, but as yet no one has shown up.

Scott Kozlowski was a Top 5 kicker-punter when he was recruited three years ago. He has the big leg. As yet he has not adapted to what Rodriguez wants from a "multi-kicker." Particularly he needs to get his rugby punt action in line before further consideration.

After Mac and Koz, perhaps the next most promising kicker is former Big 33 Game participant David Brewer. A red-shirt freshman, Brewer of Columbus, Ohio, was considered good enough to receive offers from mid-major football schools.
