Bringin' the Wood

After spending almost an entire year in a green non-contact jersey redshirt freshman defensive tackle Brandon Wood's shoulder is finally healthy and he will be able to practice at full speed when fall camp begins in August. Wood will be in the rotation at defensive tackle alongside Jeff Owens, Geno Atkins, Kade Weston, Tripp Taylor, Ricardo Crawford, and Corvey Irvin.

Wood was a highly touted four-star defensive end coming out of Haralson County High School in Buchanan, Georgia. Wood made the move to defensive tackle this spring after working mostly at defensive end in the fall.

Given his height six-foot-one and weight 275 pounds his frame is better suited for defensive tackle. His speed and agility could help Georgia's defensive tackles rush the passer better than did last season when they had only 4.5 sacks. Departed senior Ray Gant had three of those sacks last season.

"I feel like defensive tackle is who I am because I am short and strong. I am the right size for defensive tackle. I feel like my quickness and speed will help me pass rush there," said Wood this spring. "I want to put on 13 pounds to get a little bigger, but other than that I am ready."
