West Texas lineman garnering early attention
While several other offensive tackles from the class of 2009 have gotten a lot of early attention lately, a 6-foot-6, 305 pound prospect from West Texas went seemingly unnoticed. That is, until a month ago, when he received his first verbal offer over a year and a half away from signing day.
Garrett Porter of Odessa Permian was offered by Texas Tech in mid-May. While the Red Raiders were the first team to extend a scholarship offer to the towering lineman, they will certainly not be the last. In this day of early recruiting, Porter has been making the camp circuit and impressing all of the schools he visits.
