Coach: Maddox is the total package

Head coach Roy Kirby at Crest High in Shelby, N.C., knows a good linebacker when he sees one. After all Shamar Finney signed with Penn State and became a two-year starter, leading the team in tackles as a senior. Brandon Spikes signed with Florida in a high profile recruitment two years ago. Both are former players of Kirby at Crest.

The latest high-profile linebacker for Kirby is Dwayne Maddox, and on Tuesday he verbally committed to NC State.

"We've had some at Crest," Kirby told The Wolfpacker. "This kid is the fastest of all of them. That's what separates him from the other guys. He runs 4.57 every time. He's run at the Shrine Bowl combine, the Nike Combine. He's 6-foot-1 and some and about 225 pounds. By the time he graduates, he is going to be the fastest and strongest linebacker we've ever had. He is going to be the total package."
