Another Modesto star has UK interest
In a stunning development, there is actually a top-rated basketball prospect who has not been receiving heavy interest from Billy Gillispie and his tireless Kentucky staff.
But thanks to some "family ties" of sorts, that could soon change.
Reeves Nelson is a five-star forward in the Class of 2009, and he plays for the Modesto (Calif.) Christian program that produced former UK standout Chuck Hayes and current Wildcat guard Michael Porter. Porter's father, Gary, is also the head coach at MCS, so the Crusaders are members of the Wildcats' extended family.
Nelson (6-7, 215) is rated the No. 10 prospect in his class coming off a sophomore season which saw him average 16 points, nine rebounds, six assists and three blocked shots.
Nelson says he was receiving a considerable amount of recruiting interest from Kentucky when Tubby Smith was still in Lexington, but has not heard much from the new staff.
Asked who some of the main schools showing interest were at this point, Nelson listed UCLA, Arizona, North Carolina, Duke "and a few others."
