Yazoo City's runningback No. 21
One of the state's top running backs is the No. 21 selection in the RebelSports.Net Top 25 Pre-season poll.
Yazoo City's Desmond Johnson recently picked up an offer from LSU, the star runner is expected more offers in the future.
Top schools that Johnson appears to be interested in include Ole Miss, Alabama and State.
Johnson stands 6-foot-0, weighs 185 pounds, and has been clocked at 4.45 seconds in the 40-yard dash. As a junior he carried the ball 283 times for 2,509 yards (8.9 ypc) and 33 touchdowns. He was named the Delta Touchdown Club Player of the Year, the Yazoo County Player of the Year, and the division 3-4A Player of the Year after leading the state in rushing yardage.
With Johnson leading the extraordinary running attack, Yazoo City made it deep into the 4A state football playoffs last fall before falling to eventual North State Champion Clarksdale.
Johnson is one of the best running backs in the state according to his coach Tony Woolfolk.
"I've been around and he's the best running back I've ever seen, period," Woolfolk told Rivals.com previously. "He does stuff that we haven't even taught him.
"He's the man. You're talking about 2,500 yards in the district we played in. He can do it though. Woo!
"You can look at him as an Eric Dickerson sometimes. He can run away from you. He's got speed and Barry Sanders."
"Tiki Barber," Johnson said in the background, and his coach agreed. "He can run past you if he wants to, but he can put moves on you if he needs to. He's got both of those."
